All Things New!

I’m so excited spring is here! I’m thrilled to finally be able to announce that we have added to our family!

IMG_2216 IMG_2218 IMG_2219These little cuties are called Red Sex Link Pullets. I got 12, anticipating that probably 1/2 of them wouldn’t make it to adulthood. But 1 week into chicken-owning and thus far all 12 are doing great! Not sure what we’ll do with them once they outgrow the bathtub, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there….very shortly.

It’s so crazy….I can actually see them grow more and more every single day.  The pictures above are from the first day we got them. 3 days later I took this picture (observe their wings):

IMG_2250Yes, I’ve named all 12. Rather, the preschooler named them, of course. There’s Tweedledee, Tweedledum, Tweety, Alice, and the rest are Aunt Sara. Not sure if that’s a compliment or an insult….but we love you Sara!

We’ve been quite busy with spring planting and cleanup around our home. Unfortunately the dead of winter revealed about 20+ years worth of trash that had been dumped onto our property that mother nature had tried to cover up. Rusted wires and tin cans, bags of trash, old tarps, concrete slabs, rusted piping, beer and soda cans and bottles, and old tires are just a few of the lovelies we’ve found. I’ve cleaned up probably as much as I’m going to cleanup for now. There’s something about cleaning up other people trash that just makes me furious. I don’t know how people can treat the environment like this, let alone their own property! It really boggles my brain.

But after I got over being furious at some previous owner, I planted the first garden of the season! It’s off to a rather slow start, but I’ll keep you updated on if it does anything. I’m notorious for planting things and having them die off shortly before harvest time. Hopefully that will not be the case.

IMG_2186Oh! And speaking of all things new, we have some exciting news to share!

That’s right! #3 is due in October! We are so excited about our growing family! You know…excited and petrified at the same time. Funny how often those two things go hand in hand. I’m rapping up the first trimester, which I’m trilled about! I really think that first trimester is a personality-changer. Not only does it bring the nauseousness and fatigue, but it takes me from a craft-loving, blog-loving, gardening-loving, spring-cleaning-loving person into a total couch potato who only wants to eat salted potatoes. (Thank you Lord for Netflix….and Pride and Prejudice!)

But that is just about behind me now, and now I’m transitioning into super-nesting mode! One of the biggest thrills of this pregnancy is that we’re not going to be moving in the midst of it! I’ve had to move with both previous pregnancies during my 3rd trimester….cross-country. But we’ll be here the whole time and I’m so excited for that fact!

More chickens, gardening, and children! 2016 is looking to be a very good year indeed!

News on the Homefront!!!

It’s official! Actually quite a few things are now official!

First…I’m 30! I’ve been half-dreading half-looking-forward to this birthday all year. The 20s were fabulous! I graduated college, moved and moved and moved and moved again, started 3 (maybe 4) careers, birthed 2 babies, and celebrated 10 years of marriage! There was a lot of soul-searching, a lot of searching in general. A whole decade of good times….that’s going to be hard to beat! But from what everyone tells me, the 30s are wonderful! So I am looking forward to them, though I still cannot believe they’re here!

Even Maggie gets to celebrate!

So the second bit of information is…Reliable Roots is growing roots! Right here in VA! We’ve traded in the RV lifestyle for a 1200 square foot mansion! (after RVing for 3 years, this place really is a mansion!). We’ll be here for a few years by all indications, so we decided to settle in. And then we found this house and fell in love! Built in 1938 right next to loads of woods and civil war sites, this place is loaded in history and character! And if there’s two things I love, it’s history and character!!

We parked our RV out front and have spent this past weekend unloading and moving in. It never fails to amaze me at just how much junk RVs can hold! There is storage space everywhere! And apparently we actually have enough stuff shoved in there to fill up a 1200 square foot house!

Unfortunately I’m still in the midst of cleaning and organizing (this hurricane hasn’t really helped the process) so I don’t have any better pictures of the interior, and with the constant rain of the past week, no pictures of the exterior, but I did score this lovely picture of our attic!

Yes, that would be Mr. Bat, just in time for Halloween! Now I consider myself somewhat of a feminist, and I’m totally about equal rights, until I find some sort of disease-infected rodent of unusual size that wants to suck my blood….that’s a man’s work through and through. Yup. I just don’t do that. Stay tuned today for what will likely be a twitter/instagram-fest of how the brave and fearless husband plans on riding our life of this vermin without blowing a hole in the roof. I’m sure it will probably look something like this…

Of course I wouldn’t be me without mentioning how much fun it is to clean my new house with all my new Norwex products! This house has been vacant since at least January, so there was a LOT of dust. And apparently they had a cat or small dog or something that I’m terribly allergic to. Maybe a gerbil, I’m not sure. Norwex to the rescue!!

I’ll be giving away some of my goodies this month….let me know if you’d like an opportunity to win some!

Oh, and thank you previous owner for leaving all your hazardous chemicals absolutely everywhere for my toddler to find for me! I narrowly avoided having to call poison control…you know, for the second time this week (the first time was because all-natural toothpaste that tastes like strawberry just isn’t as natural as I had hoped….but all is well….and Dorothy at poison control is a super-nice lady!). This is why I Norwex. It’s worth it. Now if they only had some sort of product for getting rid of bats….

The car's so cuddly! I cannot wait for the rain to clear out so I can use it!
The car mitt…it’s so cuddly! I cannot wait for the rain to clear out so I can use it!
And look! Even Psych uses it! Man I love this show! They need to bring it back!

Now I’ll leave you with the last pictures of a wonderful summer, and of our last RV adventure, for now….

A New Adventure!

I’m so excited to say that I’m officially an independent sales consultant for Norwex! I’ve been using their products for a few years now and absolutely love them! If you haven’t heard of them, you’re not alone…they’ve only been in the US for a few years now, but their cleaning cloths are revolutionary! I can clean my whole RV with NO CHEMICALS….just water! More over, the cloths are lined with micro silver, making them self-purifying! AKA…I can use them much longer than normal microfiber without having to wash them! (And that’s pretty huge when you do laundry at a laundromat.) I take them with me and use them to wipe down door handles, grocery carts, and germy hands rather than using harsh hand sanitizers or soaps that strip the natural oil from my hands. For someone who suffers from eczema and constantly deals with dried cracked hands, that is HUGE! I’ve used them to wash babies so I didn’t have to use soap on their delicate skin. I can clean raw chicken juice off of the counter, and then use the same cloth to wipe down the cabinets and there’s NO CROSS-CONTAMINATION!

But probably the best part is that I don’t have to load up my house with chemicals that my littlest explorer would be sure to get into (I say this as she’s eating paper while simultaneously trying to stand on a watermelon…excuse me for a moment….

ok I’m back!) So yea, there’s no issue with her chewing on my cloths, which she does all the time. Saves me loads of time and headache on having to call Poison Control all the time! Bonus!

Soo…have I peeked your interest? Need some real evidence from a non-affiliate? Check out this lab test done comparing Norwex microfiber with other microfiber cloths and even all-purpose cleaner:
